The last two years have had a big impact on how we relate to technology. Pandemics and, by extension, online schooling and remote jobs have significantly increased the time spent in front of screens. A study by Comparitech shows that the average for Romanians is 7h 9m. However, our research shows that only 14% of Romanians wear computer glasses.

Should you wear computer glasses?
If you ended up reading this article, the answer is most likely yes.
The most common situations in which you would need a pair of protective glasses are:
- If you spend a lot of time on your computer, phone or tablet. If you do this for work, 8 hours a day in front of your laptop requires wearing computer protective lenses. If it’s just for personal use, you may not realize how much time you spend on social media. In this case, too, you may want to consider an additional method of eye protection.
- If you watch a lot of TV. Just like with phones and tablets, time spent watching your favorite matches or Netflix can cause headaches, burning eyes and blurred vision. The most effective solution would be to wear computer glasses with a blue light filter.
What are the computer protective lenses?
Computer glasses are equipped with a special filter that protects the eye from blue light and guarantees protection without you feeling any visual discomfort.
Blue light is emitted by artificial light sources and passes through the cornea and lens, directly affecting the retina. Over time, blue light can cause refractive errors or various ophthalmological disorders.
Even if you wear progressive, bifocal or heliomatic glasses, you can apply a screen protective filter to your lenses.

What are the main benefits of computer glasses?
- They improve vision by reducing light reflection and color intensity, thus increasing contrast. This is due to fewer photons reaching the eye.
- Block blue light. Depending on the brand, computer glasses can filter out between 31% and 36.5% of blue and violet light. If you usually work in the evening, the protective glasses neutralize blue light from artificial sources and help your body maintain its natural biorhythm after sunset.
- Block ultraviolet rays. In the long term, these rays can damage health, causing cataract, macular degeneration or skin cancer.
- Colored filters allow total relaxation of the eye muscles. You can opt for anti-reflective lenses – yellow, pink, blue or green.
Other benefits:
- They can be fitted with ultra-hydrophobic, oleophobic and antistatic coatings, which repel impurities and dirt and thus reduce the cleaning frequency of computer protective lenses.
- They are scratch resistant.
- They are resistant to chemicals.
Safety glasses and dry eye syndrome
If you struggle with dry eye syndrome, computer glasses can help you a lot in the fight against this condition. Computer filter lenses are recommended for both adults and children, as well as people who wear glasses but also to those without diopters.
Other ways to combat eye overstrain are:
- Apply the 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes, blink 20 times and watch for 20 seconds at a distance of 20 steps (at least 6 m).
- If you work at a computer, place the screen below eye level.
- Take regular breaks from screens and close your eyes intermittently, intensely.
- Avoid exposure to cigarette smoke.
- Turn to eye drops to keep them hydrated.
