The most advanced keratoconus surgery, performed for the first time in Transylvania! Dr. Holhoș has conducted in Cluj-Napoca the first intrastromal corneal ring implant surgeries with the VisuMax 800 femtosecond laser, the most advanced laser in the world, in just 6 seconds!
Intrastromal rings help improve vision in cases of advanced keratoconus. Intrastromal corneal rings are small, curved implants designed to reshape the cornea and improve the vision of patients with keratoconus, a disorder that causes the cornea to thin and deform into a cone shape.
How does it work?
The rings are inserted into the corneal stroma to flatten and stabilize the irregular shape (irregular astigmatism). By reshaping the cornea, they help reduce visual distortions caused by keratoconus. In many cases, intrastromal rings can prevent or delay the need for a corneal transplant.
The surgery is recommended for patients with advanced keratoconus who have low vision, after thorough investigations have been conducted in our clinics. In the suite of investigations for keratoconus, we include ArcScan, unique in Romania, which can detect early keratoconus at a level of 1 micron!
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, is minimally invasive, and has a quick recovery. Even the next day, patients had very good vision.
